This blog post will guide you through the process of creating a single bootable ISO file which consists of the latest HP Service Pack for Proliant (SPP) ISO and an additional HP Maintenance Supplement Bundle (MSB) which is delivered in a ZIP format. Additionally you can add single “Firmware Supplemental Updates” as well.
The red river farm network can be heard on any of these affiliated stations. In the past three decades, land use in the Brazilian Amazon has been characterized by the. The indirect land use change impacts of biofuels, also known as ILUC, relates to the unintended consequence of releasing more carbon emissions due to land-use changes. Aquatic plant.
The HP Service Pack for Proliant is a complete system software and firmware solution that is delivered several times a year, mainly driven by the release of a new server. This SPP is delivered as a bootable ISO and can be used to do offline firmware upgrades. Due to the fact that the SPP is only delivered several times a year it will most likely not contain the most recent updates, that’s why HP lets you also download a Maintenance Supplement Bundle (MSB). The SPP combined with a MSB contains a fully supported set of software. Let’s look at the components needed, which can all be downloaded:. Full ISO Image of the latest HP Service Pack for Proliant (SPP) (currently this is 2014.09.0). Maintenance Supplement Bundle (MSB) (which contains hot fixes, security releases and other updates released since the latest SPP) Now the procedure: 01.
Extract both the SPP ISO and the MSB ZIP to a local destination. (instead of the MSB contents you can also separately download “Firmware Supplemental Updates” from HP and add them) 02.
Run the launchhpsum.bat (from the extracted SPP ISO) 03. Click the Baseline Library on the HP Smart Update Manager welcome screen 04. Press Add Baseline 05. Press Browse and locate the extracted Maintenance Supplement Bundle (MSB) files or the separately downloaded “Firmware Supplemental Updates” (.scexe files) Note: you need to double-click the upper arrow to switch to a higher level directory 06. Click OK and Add, the inventory will now be filled with the extra files. Click on Actions Create custom in the upper-right corner 08.
Overview: Fill in the Overview Screen and ensure that the Make Bootable ISO file is checked. Step 1 – Baseline Sources – Ensure that all baselines are Selected 10.
Step 2 – Filters – Select your desired settings 11. Step 3 – Review – Click Apply Filters 12. Click Create ISO and wait until the custom baseline creation is completed.
If you have a HPE Passport login you can create a custom SPP (HPE's Service Pack for Proliant) package - So here you can filter and select Firmware, Drivers and Software and then for operating systems Linux/Windows. Ensure you select to include HPE SUM ( Smart Update Manager) which is a standalone tool to inventory and upgrade your node (server). This is likely to give you a smaller ISO file that can fit onto a single layer DVD.
The downloadable SPP includes Windows/Linux drivers/software etc. Also, this is great as the standard SPP you download from HPE.com is a point in time upgrade, current version although released earlier in 2016, most components are end of 2015, so this custom package has the latest versions of the components. So then you burn the ISO to a DVD/USB and run HPE SUM from it and inventory your Proliant and select which components to upgrade (firmware/drivers/software). I'm basing my comments on Windows version of HPE SUM as we use windows servers only.
You can make the disk bootable and have it upgrade firmware that way, but you need to select Linux firmware updates as the bootable disks use a linux environment. This is what we use for customer server builds where no O/S is installed. Dropkick wrote: How am I supposed to update it then.?
As well as the iLO and the Storage Array.?So you can use a USB Key. Problem solved;p. I'd expect HP to have similar capabilities with different names. HP ILO can boot ISO but it is a licensed feature, unlike the iDRAC (big disadvantage).
If it is blocked work, I would go home and burn it to a dual layer DVD, problem solved. DVD readers can read single / dual layered discs. In that case, if it's not licensed I'd get quotes for licensing ALL servers for this capability. Then present that plus a request for exception to policies that ban booting to USB drives. Also perhaps a quote for some dual layer DVD's. Cheap, Fast or Easy.
Use HP Smart Update Manager, HP SUM. Download and run, runs in web browser.
Can be run on localhost, what HP deems the server to be upgraded, or run on another computer and update 'nodes'. Download the latest SPP and place it into the 'Baseline'.
Set up how to detect your HP servers, iLO, Windows credentials, WMware vCenter. Quick video to get you familiar Download site, quick specs, manuals The 7.5.1 manual, read from front to back trust me you'll need to. Tell you the truth I just set it up last week after spending two days reading the manual, how to guides, and so on. I have a ESXi host, with no vCenter so I set it to detect by iLO, you'll need the iLO IP address and credentials. After adding the basline, that took about a half hour 45 minutes, I used it to analyze what updates I needed. However, it only said I needed the iLO updated which I know it does, but everything else needs updated to. I think I will have to install vCenter on something around here.
Good morning, first thanks for all of the replies, I will try to respond to all of them. This is a standalone closed system. No I can not connect any other system, (laptop, network or internet) No its not IT policy, its DOD policy. No I can't not use dual layer DVDs, again, DOD policy, due to THIS system. Would love iLO to boot to ISO, if I could access iLO. Need a browser for that.
This Gen8 server only has UEFI access (RBSU) because firmware isn't updated, I am unable to access the virtual disk. SSH is again not allowed, smh. That awesome youtube video, is wonderful, although I had an HP ilo engineer confirm, this Gen8 server does not have the embedded iLo admin features. I have to use RBSU or the iLo utility within Intelligent Provisioning. Also, my server is newer than the one in the video.smh the rest of the replies, which I greatly appreciate are moot. This is standalone. Another question, I never thought of extraction.
My only issue, this is a secured space. NO INTERNET to any system.
So Anton7022, can you elaborate further. Again, I will not be able to use an USBkey, can I slap this on a regular CD? Other wise, Houston we have a MAJOR problem. If you have a HPE Passport login you can create a custom SPP (HPE's Service Pack for Proliant) package - So here you can filter and select Firmware, Drivers and Software and then for operating systems Linux/Windows. Also, this is great as the standard SPP you download from HPE.com is a point in time upgrade, current version although released earlier in 2016, most components are end of 2015, so this custom package has the latest versions of the components. This is what we use for customer server builds where no O/S is installed. 'slap this on regular CD'?
Technically - yes, but probably 2 CD use via 1 CD drive will be not aplicable. I think best for you will use 'self-prepared' ISO based at HP Smart Update Manager,( HP SUM).
This soft can be free download from HP.com. (at least ear ago - free). ISO without any updatepackages very thin - 270 - 300 MB. Download all updates for your server, put their in a ' BASELINE', burn CD. NUKE Hardware.
Something like this. Arthur7976 says deal - CUSTOM SPP. Just another name for HP SUM Edited Aug 16, 2016 at 2:32 UTC. 'elaborate further' about 'How you can SQUEEZE SPP'.
Hp Smart Update Manager
SPP can be divided into a shell application and a large number of files updates for a large number of server models that occupy the overwhelming volume of the disc. Our conditions of the problem - we have enough disk space, and we need to upgrade only one server model.
SOLUTION - DELETE ALL that is not necessary. Download the update packages for our server. Open ISO-image SPP find the folder ' hp swpackages'. Remove from this folder as many files as we need space. Then copy to this folder our updates. I personally HAVE tested and used the network update myself, not only with windows servers (BL460's) but also HP DL380 G7 and Gen8 servers running VMware and it does work. To the OP: Don't get caught up on your physical media issue (USB, DVD, CD, etc).
The solution you need is to run SSP and update over the network. Your physical media is a cable. You can also target more than one server for a scan this way and see what needs to be done without booting into the CD just to do the same thing. Faster and works in a non-disruptive way. Sounds like you got it sorted out anyways.
When upgrading firmware and drivers on a huge amount of servers, it used to be time-consuming to perform a firmware upgrade after a reboot on each and every one of your ESXi hosts to match the standard. Not anymore – since 2014.09.0, the NIC Firmware can be upgraded online as well since its 10.x version (a bump from the 3.x or 4.x versions that now share a unified firmware). A huge step forward – now all the applicable firmware can be upgraded in one go – and online! No need to wait to catch the boot menu and go through HP Smart Update Manager individually. Here’s a step by step walkthrough:. Download the you wish to apply. You will need to have a HP account and a server under warranty linked to it in order to download the newest releases.
Stage the.iso file to a server that has a good connection to all the ESXi hosts you plan to upgrade (preferrably a terminal server inside the Data Center) and unpack it to the location of your liking. Run spplocation hp swpackages x64 hpsumbinx64.exe – the binary will depend on your OS flavor. The following console window will pop up, stating that the HP SUM Web Service has been launched and a default web browser will lanch on the machine, opening the address localhost:63001 and automatically logging you in by passing through your credentials.
You can also connect to your terminal server from any other computer that can access its ports 63001 or 63002 (and it is more comfortable that way). I strongly suggest using Google Chrome. If you access the web interface, this is what you get. Start by clicking on the drop-down arrow in the top left corner and select Baseline Library. You will need to manually initiate the inventory process for the selected baseline, so click on the already present one for the process to begin.
After a few minutes, the inventory completes. Now we need to add our ESXi hosts, select VM hosts from the drop-down menu. Localhost is added automatically and unfortunately can’t be changed.
Click on Add Node. You can either add a single node by its FQDN or a range of IP addresses separated by a dash. You need to specify the type of device you are adding and the package that is your baseline. Don’t forget to put in the root credentials else the initialization will fail. If you need to select specific nodes inside a range, the second entry in the “Select the type of add” has just what you need.
You enter the range, and after a scan you select the nodes you desire. Shift+Click and CTRL+Click work here like a charm. After you have added the nodes via the “Node Range” method, select the baseline to apply to them and enter the root credentials. When you were successful and the hosts were added, you can select multiple hosts by shift+click or ctrl+click and the right frame will change to multiple selection operation. Here you will need to select the baseline again by clicking on Select Baselines. Select the SPP and click on Add. Back in the multi-select frame you enter root credentials in order to scan the hosts.
You will see the inventarization progress. Once the SUM evaluates an update is needed, input the root credentials again and Deploy the components. You have reached the familiar deploy screen where you choose the components to upgrade. When you choose Deploy, it will initialize and you will see a gray wheel spinning beside the chosen hosts. When the deployment is complete, you will have a green light next to your hosts you applied updates to, and the updates will be applied on the next reboot – which is ideal for combination with VMware Update Manager to apply patches & firmware in one take.
